Children in Chains Next?

######################################      many many children in cages

U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon has made it clear in his reports that he is one of only a few in the U.S. Congress to condemn Sessions’ zero tolerance policy that allows border security agents to separate children from their parents when they illegally cross the border between the U.S. and Mexico. These children are then locked up in detention centers that Merkley visited in Texas. He described children in “cages”—fenced areas covered on top “with wire and nets” to prevent anyone from climbing out.

So I ask: What next? Will the Homeland Security people chain the kids so they can’t escape?

More cruelty appears possible with this intolerant federal administration, ready to pounce on anyone who protests taking youngsters away from their parents, no matter what their legal status. Their actions give me bad dreams of kids in cages, like trapping four-legged animals.  It’s also a nightmare that more clergy are not making concerted efforts to protest the administration’s brutality. Where are the pastors, ministers, imans, rabbis, humanists, and others who preach love, tolerance, sanctity of family, charity, and so on and on.

Perhaps they feel like I do and as my friend stated to me: “there is no god.”
