We have a wannabe dictator running (and ruining) our country and some religious and civic groups are condemning the fascist nature of our federal government. Some are organizing to petition the man in the White House and his Attorney General to change their ways. In fact they may be praying fervently to stop the practice of snatching children away from their asylum-seeking parents and locking them away in concentration camps in Texas and California.
I doubt any god, goddess, deity, divine being of any kind will stop the horrific damage federal officials are doing to families asking for a haven from persecution and death in their homelands. Some so-called Christians are praising Trump’s immigration policies and hope they continue. In their bible the book of Romans supposedly gave them license to do their evil deeds. Sessions justified his stand with the Apostle Paul’s epistle to the Romans in Chapter 13:
1 Every person should place themselves under the authority of the government. There isn’t any authority unless it comes from God, and the authorities that are there have been put in place by God.
2 So anyone who opposes the authority is standing against what God has established. People who take this kind of stand will get punished.
3 The authorities don’t frighten people who are doing the right thing. Rather, they frighten people who are doing wrong. Would you rather not be afraid of authority? Do what’s right, and you will receive its approval. (from the Common English Bible)
Whether you believe this or not, why is the Christian Bible being cited as a source for the federal government’s policies? What about the separation of religion and government? Maybe Sessions thinks he doesn’t need to abide by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Maybe he just hates people who don’t look or believe like him. Or maybe he just doesn’t care. Certainly that’s the attitude of his boss, DJ Trump.
